MICHAEL GUERRIERE, our editor-in-chief, is the Chairman and CEO of HealthLink Clinical Data Network Inc. Prior to that he was a senior executive in a variety of teaching hospitals, most recently as the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of The University Health Network (Toronto General, Toronto Western and Princess Margaret Hospitals).

Michael obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Toronto and subsequently completed clinical training in Internal Medicine. In 1996, he completed an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University in Chicago.

He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Administration at the University of Toronto and an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Victoria, School of Health Information Science in British Columbia. In April 1998, Michael received the Financial Post Top 40 Under 40 award which recognizes 40 outstanding individuals in Canada under the age of 40.

He sits as a Director on the boards of a number of organizations including CIHI, ICES, Ryerson Polytechnic University, MediSolution Ltd. and Toronto Medical Laboratories.

CATHERINE CLAITER, our associate editor, is the Manager of Strategic Initiatives at HealthLink Clinical Data Network. This follows a career at University Health Network (UHN) where she was the Manager of Program Planning, responsible for strategic planning and implementation processes for their information management strategy. Here she also developed and implemented a successful recruitment and retention strategy for information management professionals. Catherine is a graduate of the University of Victoria's School of Health Information Science.

WILLIAM PASCAL is Director General, of the Information Highway (or more fully - the Office of Health and Information Highway, Information, Analysis and Connectivity Branch). He is responsible for coordinating, facilitating and managing health infostructure-related activities. Bill is an engineer and accountant by training. He served with the Privy Council Office before coming to Health Canada. He is Health Canada's ex officio member of the Canada Health Infostructure Partnerships Program. Last December 2000, the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario awarded Bill the Institute of Public Administration's Medal of Distinction for his passionate contributions to public service.

TOM NOSEWORTHY is Professor and Chair of the Department of Public Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Alberta. He is a graduate of Memorial University of Newfoundland's first Medical School Class in 1973. He holds a Master of Science in Experimental Medicine from the University of Alberta, and a Master of Public Health - Health Policy and Management from Harvard University.

Tom is an internist and critical care physician and holds specialty certification in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the American College of Physicians, the American College of Chest Physicians, and the American College of Critical Care Medicine.

As co-chair of the Advisory Council on Health Infostructure he tabled the report: "Canada Health Infoway: Paths to Better Health" to the Federal Health Minister, the Honourable Allan Rock, in 1999. He currently chairs the Senior Reference Committee of alberta wellnet, the Province's Health Infostructure.

CARLA GREGOR is Vice President and CIO of the integrated organization Providence Health Care in British Columbia. Previously she served with the University of Alberta Hospitals and the Department of Hospitals and Medical Care, Alberta Ministry of Health. Carla received her Psychiatric Nursing Diploma from the Brandon Mental Health Center. She went on to take a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters of Business Administration at the University of Alberta.

Carla leads Community Services, (Information Systems, Health Records, Admitting, and Telecommunications) and is liaison to the Residential Care Program, Pharmacy, and Outpatient Clinics.

BRIAN GAMBLE is a family physician practicing in Chatham Ontario and is currently the Chief of Staff of the Chatham Kent Health Alliance. He is the lead physician for the community's regional information technology project.

Brian chairs the Ontario Medical Association's (OMA) Practice Technology Committee which has been involved with the Primary Care Reform initiative in its attempts to introduce computerized networking and the electronic medical record to physicians in Ontario. He is also currently the chair of the OMA's Section on General and Family Medicine representing the general and family physicians of Ontario. He is an MBA candidate at Tulane University in New Orleans.

CAMILLE ORRIDGE is Executive Director, Toronto Community Care Access Centre. She has served as President Patient Services Home Care Program for Metro Toronto and held the front line role of President of the Regent Park Community Health Centre. There she guided a vision that one day will see the children of Regent Park - a challenging community at the best of times - become the doctors, nurses, administrators, and community health workers who can work at its now brand new Health Centre.

PAT RICH is managing editor, WebMD. He comes to this post after a distinguished career as editor-in-chief of The Medical Post. He was known for introducing coverage of medical politics and his preference for features on subjects like medical ethics. Despite his non-confrontational style, his reputation at The Post for balance was not altered by the pressure of commerce, preferring to advance his medium's editorial integrity. This will serve him well as the internet explores its economic realities.

GEORGE BLAKE was appointed President, BCE Emergis - eHealth Solutions Group in October 2000. In this capacity, he manages BCE Emergis' successful implementation of network-centric solutions in the Canadian health sector and extending the reach of these solutions into the U.S. health insurance community. He knows the pulse of the health insurance community, which plays significant roles in both Canada and the United States.

George spent 10 years with Assure Health before it was purchased by BCE Emergis in November of 1999. He brings an executive background in actuarial benefits, group insurance, and other benefits products. He is known for his work in healthcare cost containment and new venture development.

DENIS J. PROTTI was the founding Director of the University of Victoria's School of Health Information Science in 1981. Previously he held senior information systems executive positions in Manitoba and British Columbia hospitals. His research and areas of expertise at the University are National Health Information Management and Technology Strategies, Electronic Patient Record Systems, Evaluating Information Systems and Chief Information Officers. He is a research team member evaluating the effectiveness of Electronic Patient Record (EPR) systems in hospitals in the United Kingdom.

Denis is a fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics and was granted lifetime member status in Canada's Health Informatics organization. He is vice-chair of the British Columbia Health Information Management Standards Council. He is a member of a new Systems Committee of the Board of the University Health Network in Toronto. Over the past few years, he chaired the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) Partnership Working Group on data content standards, the Statistics Canada Advisory Committee for Health Programs, and the International Medical Informatics Association working group on Education and Information Science.

In 1998, Denis was commissioned by the United Kingdom Treasury to review the proposed National Health Service Information Strategy (1998 - 2005) prior to its release. The following year he was invited to conduct an on-site review of progress to-date and asked to develop an evaluation methodology for their national strategy.
